The Anacostia watershed is THE place to get out and bike. The trail system spans Montgomery and Prince George's counties through the District to where the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers meet. Bikes are a great way to connect to the nature in neighborhoods to historical sites and big events across the region.
The Anacostia River Trail system is gaining fans across the watershed. Meet Anacostia’s newest bike trail. It might be the most beautiful in the region, penned Greater Greater Washington.

Trails and parks in the Anacostia have biking options for all ages and abilities. Parks are excellent for those first rides. Soft grass,limited traffic, shade and paved paths. Anacostia Park and waterfront are scenic motivation with blessedly level trails and few hills. Get started by looking at the Washington Area Bike Association (WABA) site for all things 'bike' in the Washington metro area. Adult and kid clinics and classes will get everyone on the trail!

Explore, find theme rides and take commutes to the next level. The Anacostia Trail System is a regional gem. Veteran riders likely know WABA. Don't take them for granted, check the schedule for awesome, unique rides.
Rides to inspire and motivate
Bike Space DC offers popular rides, the Nice-n-Easy is a good starter. Saturday morning rides include the Hills of Anacostia. WABA Tales and Trails rides combine history and other interests with summer rides in the Anacostia. Local bike shops all sponsor general and specialty rides. Need help or advice on the trails? Look for county, regional or NPS park rangers. Volunteer WABA trail rangers are out in their green shirts on weekends.
Find a bike, fix a bike
Capital Bikeshare is a good start for the commuter and recreational rider. The many stations in the Anacostia Watershed stations are near Metro stops, trails and parks. Join, download the app and be set to go on a moments notice. They are expanding east of the river!
Gear'in Up Bicycles has low cost options to encourage cycling, its a bike co-ops thing. Clinics, rides, job training, repair space and bike ownership are part of the mission. The Earn a Bike program and regular Anacostia Library pop up shops are awesome community resources. Check with WABA, or your District, city and county transportation for repair classes, clinics and co-ops.
