To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act, we invite you to explore the Anacostia and photograph your favorite things about the river, its tributaries, and the watershed that sustains it! Submit your photos for the chance to win up to $150!

Winners will be displayed at the 7th Annual Festival del Rio and featured on the Enjoy the Anacostia social media accounts!

Categories

The three age categories are:

  • Kids (under 13)

  • Youth & Yong Adults (13-17)

  • Adults (18 & up)

Fan Favorite

The top three photos from each category will be entered into a Community Favorite competition on Facebook. The photo with the most “likes” will be named the Fan Favorite.

Prizes

First place from each age category will win a $100 gift card. The Fan Favorite will receive a $50 gift card.


How to Enter

1. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. (EST) on September. 16th, 2022
2. Read the Rules and Regulations below.
3. Use a camera or cell phone to take a picture of something you enjoy about the Anacostia!
4. Fill out an upload form for each entrance.

 

Rules and Regulations:

1. All photos must be original.

2. All photos must be taken within the Anacostia watershed.

3. Photos must be taken within the year 2022 and submitted by 5 PM September 16th.

4. You may submit multiple images, but you must fill out an entry form for each photo.

5. Before you upload, please name each photo in the following format Title_First&LastName. Example: Storms_JaneWren.jpg.

6. Photos must not include identifiable people. Examples: A photo with someone’s feet hiking a trail, or the back of someone rowing a boat is acceptable. People facing the camera with their faces shown will not be accepted.

7. Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) and Enjoy the Anacostia judges will make selections based on the quality, composition, content, originality, social impact and creativity. Decisions are final and in sole and absolute discretion of COG and Enjoy the Anacostia.

8. Photographers authorize COG and Enjoy the Anacostia to distribute their image(s) for non-commercial purposes. Photographers retain copyright to these photos, the above agreed to permissions notwithstanding. COG and Enjoy the Anacostia may post photos online—including its website and social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram—after the contest.

 

This contest is being hosted by the Anacostia Watershed Community Advisory Committee (AWCAC), in coordination with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) and Enjoy the Anacostia.

AWCAC is the community branch of the Anacostia Watershed Restoration Partnership (AWRP). This committee meets to ensure that public interests are considered during restoration and protection projects and activities.
